What is Mountain Ski Gear?

I’ve skied since I was 6 years old and skiing has always been my biggest love in outdoor activities. I’ve always been a gear nerd and spend way too much time researching and checking out new ski gear every winter. One day one of my ski friends pointed out that I’m the go to person whenever he needs to get something new. Mountain Ski Gear was born out of a desire to spread our knowledge and enthusiasm for skiing fun.

Our Mission

Our goal is to provide in depth gear reviews and how to articles to help you enjoy skiing as much as possible. We want you to feel like you have experienced and seen everything about a piece of gear after reading about it here. We provide lots of images and measurements and comparisons to help you understand which piece of gear is the best. We tend to be more beginner focused with most of our content. We understand that ski gear can be very confusing and intimidating for beginners just getting started.

Doug Ryan
Co-Founder & Chief Editor

I grew up back east in Pennsylvania and learned to ski on a family trip to Killington, Vermont when I was 6. I immediately fell in love with the mountains and have skied across the US and Canada on the east and west coasts and the midwest. I have a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Reliability and am a complete gear nerd. Nothing excites me more than trying out new ski gear. These days I reside in Michigan by the Great Lakes and go skiing as much as possible.

Kate Ryan
Co-Founder & Editor

Kate is from Taiwan and came to the US after meeting her husband Doug. She has degrees in Fashion Design and Marketing. She enjoys skiing almost as much as he does. (maybe a bit more but don’t tell him that). She frequently beats him to the bottom of the run. She loves the joy of skiing long perfectly groomed runs and occasionally ventures off into the alpine.
